SOUTHEND United midfielder Cav Miley is not placing any extra significance on facing his former side Eastleigh at Roots Hall tomorrow.

Miley made 187 appearances for the Spitfires during a five year spell which ended last summer.

But the 27-year-old’s only focus is on winning this weekend’s clash.

“It’s just another game for me,” stressed Miley.

“I just want to go out there, play well and hopefully get the win.

“That’s all that matters and it’s just the same as every other game.

“All you think about is the final whistle and winning.

“I’m looking forward to it but that’s the same with every Saturday.”

Miley has been among Blues’ most consistent performers this season, making many fans question just why Eastleigh boss Lee Bradbury opted to release him.

But Miley fully understood the decision.

“I’d seen it coming,” said Miley.

“There were a few of us who had been there the same length of time and they probably wanted fresh faces.

“The lads who were released probably needed a fresh start too.

“It probably worked for everyone but I’m thankful and lucky enough to have come to a club the size of Southend now and I’m happy.

“I think you have to look forward and hopefully we’ll have a successful season.”

But Miley will always be grateful for the part Eastleigh played in his career.

“I was playing for St Pauls in Jersey before joining Eastleigh,” recalled Miley.

“Brian Little came over to take a game and organised for me to go to Eastleigh on trial.

“I went there and that was it, I think I was there for five years in the end.

“I enjoyed it and they gave me the opportunity to play full-time football.

“I can’t thank them enough for that.

“Being at a club that long there are ups and downs but I’m happy I went there.

“But more important is having a good year here now and that’s what I’m focused on.”

Blues sit eighth in the table heading into this weekend’s clash. And Miley insists the players will continue to block out the club’s off the field problems.

“The club and the staff here do extremely well to shut that noise out,” said Miley.

“We concentrate on coming in here and when you do that you’ve seen what the lads are like.

“Everyone has a smile on their face and we enjoy each other’s company.

“We enjoy training too and come the weekend hopefully that all shows.”

However, Blues have now gone two weeks without a fixture due to frozen pitches.

And Miley cannot wait to get back in action.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said Miley.

“The two games being off after the results we’d had was a bit of a killer but I think most teams are in the same boat.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday now and want to kick on again.”

And Miley wants to give the Shrimpers supporters something to cheer.

“We’ve got loads of home games coming up,” said Miley.

“Especially when things have been going well, the fans have been unbelievable.

“When we’re at home we know we need to take our chances but with them behind us it feels like a proper football game.

“They’re always there and we need to make sure we repay them with a good performance and result.”
