JEFF Stelling spoke of Southend United’s ‘perilous situation’ live on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday show.
As games around the country were kicking off, Stelling highlighted how the Shrimpers are fighting to survive.
He said: “This is very much the crisis club, Southend United.
“A winding up order has been adjourned but that debt with HMRC is described as large.
“The chief executive this week said Southend are losing £2 million a year.
“Some office staff have not been paid for December or January and they owe money to St John Ambulance.
“They’re in a transfer embargo and Southend United are a club on the edge of a precipice at the moment.
“I know all their fans want to make people aware of the situation they are in.
“It is a perilous situation despite the fact on the pitch they’re doing terrifically well and in the top nine of the National League.”
Stelling’s words came before Blues’ 2-0 victory against York City at Roots Hall.
