SOUTHEND United matchwinner Harry Cardwell said the Shrimpers were ‘buzzing’ after securing a 2-1 victory at Maidenhead.

Cardwell scored in stoppage time as Blues bagged all three points at York Road.

And the striker was delighted to continue his fine form in front goal.

“We’re all buzzing in there,” said Cardwell.

“It’s always tough coming to Maidenhead and you know what you will come up against.

“To come away with three points after a last minute winner is very pleasing.

“We made it difficult for ourselves but we know the character we have in there and know we can come back like did we did.”

Maidenhead took an early lead with Shawn McCoulsky volleying home.

But Gus Scott-Morriss equalised just before the break for Blues to get Kevin Maher’s side back in the game.

“Gus got a great header to get us back in the game and it felt like we had a lot of momentum before half-time,” said Cardwell.

“We didn’t take our chances but luckily it came to me in the second half and I put it away.

“As centre-forwards they’re always the nice ones, a tap in from a couple of yards.

“It was a long time coming for us and I was just glad to be on the end of it.”

Cardwell now has five goals in his last five games and he remains hungry for more.

“I’ve started the new year in good form so hopefully I can kick on and carry this on until the end of the season,” said Cardwell.

“But it was important to get the win because the league table is so close.”

The victory also brought much needed positivity to the sixth placed Blues who are in a perilous position off the pitch.

The players are still waiting to be paid for January.

But Cardwell loves lining up for the Shrimpers.

“We’re here to play football and to come in every day it’s a joy,” said Cardwell.

“We love playing for this football club and the management team we’ve got.

“The feel around the camp is really good and we’re a close knit group.

“I really think we can go on to achieve good things here.”

But attention will now turn towards this weekend's clash with York City in the FA Trophy.

"It’s a competition we want to go far in," said Cardwell.

"It’s a chance to play at Wembley and we’re very focused on it.

"We want to get through to the next round."
