CONCORD Rangers came from behind twice to draw as goals from Mo Bettamer and Ricky Modeste earned the Beach Boys a respectable 2-2 draw against play-off chasing Tonbridge Angels.

The Angels dominated the opening exchanges at Longmead with Concord's Mitchell Beeney making routine saves to deny Jordan Greenidge and Jamie Fielding.

Then with quarter of an hour played the hosts broke the deadlock. Tariq

Hinds whipped a cross into the box and Devonte Aransibia rose highest to head a looping effort over Beeney and into the back of the net.

However Concord responded well to this set back and eight minutes later the Beach Boys equalised through an acrobatic Bettamer strike.

Tonbridge failed to clear a set piece and Jimmy Wallace poked the ball across the box to Bettamer and the Libyan converted for Concord with a sweetly struck overhead kick that nestled into the far corner.

This goal was the Hayes & Yeading loanee's seventh of the campaign as the 29-year-old leads the Concord goalscoring chart.

But Rob Small's side were unable to stay level for long and with eight minutes left of the first half Tonbridge retook the lead.

Full back Hinds was once again the provider with the former Billericay Town man delivering a teasing cross to the far post that picked out Greenidge and the Hemel Hempstead Town loanee beat Beeney with a diving header for his 13th goal in 14 appearances.

Three minutes into the second period in Kent, Greenidge went close to bagging his second of the afternoon with the crossbar coming to Concord's rescue.

A Joe Turner delivering was met by Greenidge and the striker's attempt rattled the upright.

Just past the hour mark Jay Saunders' men were denied by the woodwork again.

On this occasion Aransibia let fly from long range, and his effort was heading for the top corner but Beeney was able to get a fingertip to the strike - tipping it onto the crossbar and behind for a corner.

Concord were defending resiliently in order to ensure they didn't fall further behind and, with 20 minutes left on the clock, Rangers were rewarded for their endeavours.

Ola Ogunwamide was able to play the ball across the face of goal and to the back post where Modeste was on hand to scramble the ball past Jonathan Henly and in for a goal against his former club - this being the third time that the experienced Grenadan has found himself on the scoresheet in 2023.

The closing stages was one way traffic at Longmead as Tonbridge desperately searched for a winner, with Beeney making countless crucial saves to keep Concord level.

With two minutes of normal time to play the 27-year-old made a good save; tipping over a Greenidge header which came from a Fielding cross.

Then in the 11th minute of injury time Beeney made a brilliant reaction save to somehow keep out a Tommie Fagg header - earning Concord a crucial point in their fight for survival.

A draw for Concord sees the Beach Boys move up one place, to 21st in the table, at the expense of Hampton & Richmond Borough who were thumped 6-2 by Ebbsfleet United.

A point also means Concord are now four games unbeaten against Tonbridge.

Meanwhile a point for the Angels sees them slip down to 10th in the Vanarama National League South standings, despite making it seven games unbeaten.

Small's men are back in action on Tuesday night in the Island derby as the Beach Boys make the short trip to Canvey Island in the BBC Essex Senior Cup Quarter Finals.
