GATESHEAD boss Mike Williamson felt his side looked tired in their 1-0 defeat at Southend United.

Saturday’s clash with Gateshead’s fifth away game in a row.

And Williamson, who brought himself on at half-time, was frustrated to return home from Roots Hall empty handed.

“It’s extremely disappointing,” Williamson told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We’ve done a lot of miles and I think it showed here.

“It was reflected from the first whistle with our decision making and quality.

“We were reactive and when we couldn’t get going.

“I felt we handed them the win.

“The boys always give everything they’ve got.

“But when you count up the number of hours we’ve spent on the bus and the minutes we’re asking these boys to play with a thin squad I just think a little bit of tiredness was the overriding factor today.”
