SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher is disappointed with Notts County’s public pursuit of Shrimpers star Jack Bridge.

Magpies boss Luke Williams spoke of his interest in Bridge following his side’s 4-1 win at Yeovil Town on Saturday.

And Maher remains frustrated the County chief opted to openly discuss the offer.

“It’s an easy question to bat off, just say we’re not talking about other team’s players and it moves on,” said Maher.

“We’re disappointed with that but it is what it is.

“It’s slightly bemusing but we only focus on our team and what we do.

“They’ve mentioned Jack and he’s done brilliantly for us.

“It’s a reflection of the work that goes on here that he loves being at the club.

“He’s a great player and a great person.”

Bridge tops the Shrimpers scoring charts with eight goals this season.

And Maher felt Notts County’s bid was never going to be accepted.

“They bid for him and we turned it down,” said Maher.

“It was nowhere near an acceptable bid.

“He’s our player and he’s not for sale.

“Jack loves it here and we love him.

“He’s a fans favourite and we spoke to him about his numbers and the goals he gets.

“How far he’s come on is brilliant and credit to the staff who work with him.

“It’s no coincidence that the players have shown the level of improvement they have in the 18 months since we’ve been here.

"That’s a credit to everyone.”
