SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin insists Saturday’s match at Torquay United will not be the last in the club’s 117 year history.
Concerned fans fear for the future of the Shrimpers ahead of next Wednesday’s court hearing due to a winding up petition issued by HMRC.

But, in a short statement emailed to Echosport after a request for comment, Martin confirmed Blues would not be wound up.
Martin said: “I have said previous last Saturday, next Saturday and the Saturday after, with Tuesdays in between, will not be the club’s last game(s)”.
Martin’s words came during an incredibly tough time for the Shrimpers as players remain unpaid for January and some staff have not received their salaries since November.
Blues have also been in a transfer embargo since September due to the winding up petition and fans have continued to protest against Martin’s running of the club.
Despite the seriousness of the off-field issues, Blues are currently sixth in the National League standings
