SOUTHEND United defender Gus Scott-Morriss suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Torquay United.

Scott-Morris was replaced 15 minutes from time by Jason Demetriou after feeling pain in the back of his leg.

But Blues boss Kevin Maher is hopeful the right wing-back was taken off in time to stop the setback becoming more serious.

“It was a tight hamstring so we had to get him off,” said Maher.

“Hopefully he came off soon enough to stop it getting any worse but we’ll have to see how it settles down.”

Scott-Morriss, who joined the Shrimpers from Hemel Hempstead in the summer, has scored four goals in 26 games so far this season.
