SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher was left dumbfounded after seeing another controversial refereeing decision cost his side dear.

Blues slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Boreham Wood after Zak Brunt converted a penalty given after Ollie Kensdale had been adjudged to have fouled Dennon Lewis.

And Maher was aggrieved to see another call go against the Shrimpers who have now suffered four successive defeats.

“From where we are sitting you can see Kens get a touch on the ball,” said Maher.

“The ball moved too and the referee is 40 yards away from play.

“For him to take his time, wait for an appeal and then give it was pretty incredible.

“I spoke to Mike Jones yesterday, the head of the PGMOL.

“He said the one at the weekend was a definite foul that should have been given and the red card should have been given to the Barnet player.

“ I’ll probably get another apology tonight but that won’t help me.”

However, Maher knows Blues must do more to win games themselves.

“We know we’ve got to be better than relying on decisions, we know that,” said the Blues boss.

“But we do need a bit of help because we’re not getting any.

“It seems like everything is going against us at the minute with how the club is.”

And that also includes Jack Bridge seeing his penalty saved by Nathan Ashmore shortly after Brunt had given Boreham Wood the lead.

"We've got one our end which is handball and we’ve got to take that up but these things aren’t going our way," said Maher.

"It's very frustrating."
