KEVIN Maher feels there is ‘horrendous’ karma at Southend United.

Blues were beaten 1-0 at Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, thanks to a controversial penalty from Zak Brunt.

And Maher could not hide his frustration at the final whistle.

“It seems like everything is going against us with how the club is,” said Maher.

“The karma at this club is horrendous at the minute. I’ve got my ideas on it.”

The Shrimpers have been hit by a whole host of issues off the field this season but are now experiencing troubles on it after suffering four defeats in succession.

But Maher was pleased with his side’s performance against Boreham Wood “I’m incredibly proud of the players and how they played,” said Maher.

“The football at times was brilliant but we just needed to find that end product.

“We knew the longer we could keep probing and playing our football something would open up but the first goal was always going to be massive in this game.

“For a team that travelled away from home to take on a team top of the table to play like that again with the energy and quality we showed was outstanding.”

But Blues were unable to take any of the chances coming their way.

“In the first half Cards (Harry Cardwell) had a chance Murph (Rhys Murphy) and Gus (Scott-Morriss) had one as well.

“In the second half we were the ones taking it to them and we kept on finding pockets.

“How we played was very clever with Murph dropping in.

“It’s just about getting that goal and once they get it they’re going to shut up shop.”

Ninth placed Blues are now seven points behind the play-off places.

But Maher remains determined to push for a top seven finish.

“We only have to end up in the play-offs on the last day of the season,” said the Blues boss.

“I don’t think anyone will want to play us.

“We’re just missing that final piece of the jigsaw which is putting the ball in the net.

“You look at Notts County with Langstaff, Wrexham with Mullin and Woking are up there with goalscorers too.

“We’re trying to find that because Murph has been injured, Cards – who I thought was brilliant today – has been injured and Chrissy Wreh has been injured too.

“But we’ve got to keep going and try to get a result on Saturday.

“We’ll focus on that and keep going.”
