SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher expects Dan Mooney to have a big part to play during the remainder of the season.

Mooney has failed to repeat the level of pre-season performances in the National League this term.

But Maher still feels there is time for Mooney to shine after the midfielder worked himself back from two injury setbacks.

“He’s a creative player and we managed him getting back in after he was out for 10 or 11 weeks,” said Maher.

“We built up his minutes and then he had a tight hamstring after the Torquay game.

“He started against Wrexham but him and Chrissy (Wreh) had both been out and after the travel and a heavy pitch we changed it on Tuesday.

“But he’s someone who I think will play a big part for us moving forwards in these last 10 games.

“We’re going to need his creative side of things to open teams up at times.

“He’s one of the players we’ll be looking for.”

Mooney has scored twice in 24 games this season.
