SOUTHEND United defender Gus Scott-Morriss enjoyed 'one of his best experiences in football' when helping England C beat Wales C 1-0.

The right wing-back played the full 90 minutes as Paul Fairclough's side came out on top at Altrincham's J Davidson Stadium.

And Scott-Morriss loved every second of his involvement.

“It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in football and, if it came around again, I’d be buzzing to put on the shirt again," said the 25-year-old.

“The experience was great.

"There was a real buzz about the whole camp.

"There were obviously a few nerves settling in but the lads and the manager were top class. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

The England C squad saw the best non-league players in the country lining up together against their Welsh counterparts.

Scott-Morriss was called up after a series of fine performances for the Shrimpers and thought Paul Fairclough's side fully warranted their victory.

“I think we deserved the win," said Scott-Morriss.

"The pitch was very tricky, there was a lot of rain and it cut up in the second half.

"But I thought we dictated the play and created chances in the first half. Then it was just about seeing the job out because the conditions got really tough."

Scott-Morriss overcame an early head injury to play the full game and delivered a series of dangerous crosses in the first half.

However, the defender admitted lining up in a completely different team provided a unique challenge.

"It was difficult to a certain extent because I didn’t know many of the lads but at the same time everyone made sure we got on with it and we prepared as best we could," said Scott-Morriss.

“The coaches gave us everything we needed and it was a great buzz to put the England shirt on.”

Scott-Morriss will now be back at Altrincham this weekend with the Shrimpers.

And he is hoping for a similar outcome.

"We would love the same result come Saturday and have one last push for the play-offs," added Scott-Morriss.
