DORKING Wanderers boss Marc White felt his side were defensively brilliant in their 1-0 win against Southend United.

The Shrimpers struggled to create clear cut chances during their seventh successive defeat.

And White was pleased with how Wanderers, who have the second worst defensive record in the division, kept Blues at bay.

“It’s not luck, we’ve really looked at how rigid we can be as a team,” White told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We’ve put some experience into the side and made ourselves tough and robust.

“We’ve set ourselves up now to be more difficult to beat.

“We want to accept having less of the ball and none of us like it.

“You sit in the dug-out thinking blimey this is boring but at this stage of the season it’s about getting wins and points on board.

“We’ve looked at what type of team does that and it’s about being experienced and robust.

“We were defensively brilliantly and I think that’s what the experience and organisation comes in.”

Dorking now sit 19th in the National League table, five points above the drop zone.

But White was keen to thank the crowd in attendance, including Southend’s travelling support.

“I want to say massive thanks to all the Southend fans who came all this way,” said White.

“The roof isn’t on the away end yet so I appreciate they got a bit wet.

“Thank you to them but the biggest thank you goes to our supporters 1,700, 1,800 of them.

“It’s fantastic.”
