THE National League have confirmed they are in contact with Southend United following today’s court hearing.

The Shrimpers have been given another 42 days to pay off a £275,000 debt to HMRC.

But the League must now decide whether or not to let Blues kick off the campaign which starts on August 5.

A spokesman for the League confirmed a formal statement would not be made at this stage but that ‘they were in contact with the club following today’s court ruling’.

It is also understood the matter will be discussed further at a National League meeting which takes place tomorrow.

Blues currently have 14 contracted players for the forthcoming campaign and have yet to play a pre-season friendly.
