SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has told supporters protesting outside his house they are putting people off buying the club.

Martin remains in charge at Roots Hall, five months after revealing he wanted to sell the Shrimpers.

But Martin believes fans are not helping him to move on.

In recorded footage sent to the Echo, Martin said: “I know you want me to sell and I want to sell the club as much as you do but you do realise you’re putting people off.

He then later reiterated: “You guys are putting people off. I’m sorry, you are.”

The Shrimpers kick off the National League season against Oldham Athletic on Saturday but remain under a transfer embargo and are only allowed to register a maximum of 16 players.

It has still yet to be confirmed where the match will be played as Blues have yet to receive a safety certificate to play at Roots Hall.

Fans remain deeply concerned for the club’s future and have protested outside Martin’s house for three Saturdays in succession.

But he told supporters he has not been made a suitable offer to sell the club.

He said: “I have not had the opportunity to sell the club, If I had I would have.”

"I’d like to sell the club but no-one has come along and said I’d like to buy the club here’s £1 for the club and £4.5million for Roots Hall.”

Martin also added he was sure HMRC would be paid before the next court hearing on Wednesday August 23.
