TOM Clifford has left Southend United.

The 24-year-old defender made 66 appearances for the Shrimpers' first team after coming through the ranks at Roots Hall.

But he has now had his contract contract by mutual consent in order for him to join National League North side King's Lynn Town.

Clifford scored five goals while with Blues but found first team opportunities hard to come by last season, playing just six times.

The left-back's last start came in a 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield in mid-September and he made just one substitute appearance after falling out of the starting line-up.

Clifford will now be looking to kick-start his career with King's Lynn who finished second in the National League North table last season.

The defender's departure means Blues are now able to add one more player to their squad ahead of Saturday's National League opener against Oldham Athletic.

Blues are allowed a squad of 16 while under embargo and currently have 15 registered players.
