JACK Bridge is still confident Southend United can succeed this season despite suffering back to back defeats.

Bridge bagged Blues’ first goal in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Hartlepool United.

But the left wing-back is certain the Shrimpers will soon be back on track.

“We know among ourselves we're good enough to do something this season and that hasn't changed just because we've lost a couple of games,” said Bridge.

“It's obviously frustrating though and, after leading twice you'd back us to end up winning.

“To end up with nothing is frustrating.

“We wanted to put it right today after what happened on Tuesday but we haven't so Friday's game becomes even more important now.”

Blues host Eastleigh next time out.

And Bridge is keen for the Shrimpers to learn from Saturday’s setback “We've been speaking in there and we need to come to some kind of realisation of what we need to do,” said Bridge.

“It's game management at times to see spells out and to make sure we get the result at the end.”

Blues’ defeats came after they had triumphed in their opening two games of the campaign.

But Bridge will not be using the small size of the Shrimpers’ squad as an excuse.

“I don't think it's anything to do with that,” said Bridge.

“We know what we've got in there and it's a good group.

“Obviously if we could bring more players in it would be great but we've got more than enough in there to win games.

“I think we did enough to win this one too but we haven't done something quite right which we need to correct.

“We've started all four games brilliantly so far but we want to put games to bed and score more.”

However, Bridge was at least boosted by firing home his first goal of the season.

“It's good,” said the 27-year-old.

“I wanted to get off the mark and hopefully we can get a few more.”

Attention will now turn to off the field as Blues are back in the High Court this Wednesday due to a winding up petition issued by HMRC.

But Bridge will be doing all he can to stay focused on football.

“It's difficult and obviously it does play a part on us but we try to focus on football because that's all we can affect,” said Bridge.

“We'll focus on Friday and whatever happens, happens.”
