CAV Miley stressed Southend United made sure they were not affected by off-field issues ahead of Friday night’s win against Eastleigh.

Blues faced Miley’s former side at Roots Hall just two days after being docked 10 points for failing to pay off their HMRC debt.

But Miley insisted Blues had prepared as normal as possible for the game despite the unusual circumstances.

“It’s been a strange week for everyone at the club but we’ve done what we always do,” said Miley.

“We concentrate on training and prepare for the game like we would whatever the situation is.

“I’m just glad to get three points and I’m over the moon we’ve got them too.”

First half goals from Noor Husin and Harry Cardwell saw the Shrimpers secure a 2-0 victory.

And Miley has now set his sights on making sure Blues work their way off the foot of the table.

“We’re sitting bottom of the league now so our goal is to get off the bottom and start to creeping up the table again,” said the midfielder.

“It’s hard to put into words and it’s not nice for any of us because we know what we want to achieve.

“But we know what we’ve got to do now.”

The Shrimpers lifted their spirits by getting back to winning ways against Eastleigh.

And Miley was pleased to see Blues learn lessons from the defeats suffered in their previous two outings.

“We’ve spoken a lot this last week about managing games because we were ahead against Hartlepool and Dorking and lost,” said Miley.

“Maybe we were too eager to finish teams off but between us we were really organised tonight to see the game out.

“We’ve started every game every well, even the two we lost.

“We just need to make sure we punish teams when we’re on top and we did that with two good goals but the main thing is the three points.”

The Shrimpers are now on minus one points for the season.

But Miley’s main focus is now on Monday’s match at Bromley.

“We’ll be in tomorrow and Sunday and will prepare for the game like we did this week too,” added the 28-year-old.
