GUS Scott-Morriss wants Southend United to get in the swing of things at Halifax Town this weekend.

A tight-knit Shrimpers squad will head to the Shay Stadium hoping their togetherness can again help them to pick up points despite the club’s off-field issues.

And Blues’ togetherness has been further galvanised by playing rounds of golf.

“A few of us play down at Thorpe Hall and the gaffer likes to play too,” said Scott-Morriss.

“I really like golf and it’s definitely my biggest hobby outside of football.

“I play a lot in the summer and when my body lets me during the season too but it’s good for us to get out together.”

Scott-Morriss – who has a handicap of just four on the fairways -has certainly been above par for the Shrimpers this season.

And he was thrilled to see Kevin Maher’s side get back to winning ways with a dramatic 2-1 victory against Kidderminster Harriers last time out.

“There was a great buzz around the place above the late winner,” said Scott-Morriss.

“I felt like we had let ourselves down in a few halves of football recently and we’ve spoken about that as a group.

“It was nice to be on the end of a bit of luck and we stuck at it.

“Powelly (Callum Powell) was in the right place at the right time as strikers need to be and that’s why they get paid the big bucks to put it in the net.”

But Scott-Morriss is now seeking consistency from Blues.

“We want to build some momentum and get a run together,” said Scott-Morriss.

“We’re very much win one lose one at the moment but if you add the 10 points back on we’d be in the play-off places and any team would take that.”

As it is however, Blues sit bottom of the table after being docked 10 points for financial irregularities.

And, having now recovered from a hamstring issue, Scott-Morriss feels fit enough to try and help the Shrimpers work their way back up the National League standings.

“It’s alright now,” said Scott-Morriss.

“With a lack of pre-season sometimes you just get caught out.

“If it’s Saturday to Saturday you can be OK, but Bromley was on the Monday and it was a bit of a struggle, I’m not going to lie.

“But it’s all cleared up now and I’m ready to go.
