NOOR Husin wants a rekindled partnership to boost Southend United’s push for much-needed points at Halifax Town tomorrow.

Husin played alongside Harry Cardwell for three seasons in Reading’s youth team at the start of their careers.

But the duo are now both shining for the Shrimpers.

Between then, Cardwell and Husin have been directly involved in 10 of the 14 goals Kevin Maher’s side have scored this season.

And Husin is relishing being back with his ex Royals team-mate.

“We were in the same youth team so we know each other’s game well,” said Husin.

“We all know the attributes he’s got and he’s started the season so well.

“I really enjoy linking up with him.

“We had three years together at Reading and that definitely helps but he’s a top player.

“I remember the day we signed I actually had no idea he was coming.

“I went to do my medical and he was sat there as well.

“We had stayed in contact since Reading and played against each other but it’s good to be in the same team again.”

Husin created Cardwell’s goal against Kidderminster on Saturday with a sublime through ball.

But the midfielder believes staying fit is the main reason for his sustained level of good form.

“Last season was hard for me and I never really felt like I built up any momentum,”said Husin.

“I’d get a run of games, then get injured and you feel like you’re starting again after that.

“It was frustrating and hopefully this season I can stay fit all the way through but we don’t look too far ahead.”

As a result, Husin’s focus is solely on facing Halifax Town at the Shay Stadium on Saturday.

And the 26-year-old is confident Blues can pick up more points.

“We back ourselves against most teams in this league but it will be a tough test,” said Husin.

“They’re a good team who are in and around it and they’ve done well in recent years.”

Halifax are currently sixth in the National League standings while the Shrimpers still sit at the foot of the table following a 10 point deduction for financial irregularities.

But Husin is still eager to help Blues play catch up.

“You can’t say it’s not frustrating because it is,” said the midfielder.

“We can only control what happens on the pitch though and it is what it is.

“We will keep trying to pick up points and then see where we are at the end of the season.”

Husin is also free to feature after making himself unavailable for international duty.

Afghanistan take on the Philippines on Tuesday but Husin opted to stay with the Shrimpers due to their small squad.
