SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher feels protesting Blues fans have every right to show their frustration.

The Shrimpers’ match with Maidenhead United was held up for four minutes in the first half by supporters throwing toy rats onto the pitch while chanting for Martin to sell the club.

And Maher can understand why the Roots Hall faithful are making their feelings known.

“When people care about something then emotions come out and why shouldn’t they?,” said the Blues boss.

“We all human beings and we all want an answer and an end to what’s going on.

“Hopefully it’s a positive one and we can grow as a football club because the worst thing for me would be to lose these players, lose the staff and what we’ve got around the place.

“That’s everyone behind the scenes too because it’s ready to take off.

“I really believe that and you can see it with the team and the players we’ve got we’re close to being a top, top team.”

Martin put the club up for sale in March but has yet to leave and there are genuine concerns for the Shrimpers’ future.

Blues have until October 4 to pay off their debts to HMRC or they have been warned they will be wound up.
