ALDERSHOT Town boss Tommy Widdrington said he could not be disappointed with his side’s draw against Southend United.

A second half equaliser from Shrimpers striker Harry Cardwell meant the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

And, despite being frustrated to have lost the lead, Widdrington admitted Blues were well worthy of a point.

“We had a serious conversation in there about the reoccurring thing that’s happening,” Widdrington told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We’ve gone in front in a lot of games and not seen it out but these are a good side.

“We understand what’s going on behind the scenes there but the people who run the football team are top, top people and top, top pros.

“They’re great coaches and they know what they’re doing.

“They’ve got good players too so we weren’t expecting an easy ride.”

And Widdrington made that clear to his team.

“I did warn the players about that,” said Widdrington, who lives in Southend.

“The first half was a sparring game and we got ourselves in front but I can’t be disappointed with a point because I thought they were better than us in the second half.”
