SOUTHEND United have been charged by the Football Association for surrounding a match official.

Blues have been punished after their reaction towards referee Paul Cooper following Gus Scott-Morriss’ red card at York City in mid-September.

A post on the FA website confirmed: “Breach of FA Rule E20.1 - It is alleged that in or around the 88th minute of the fixture, Southend United FC failed to ensure that its players do not behave in a way which is improper.

"The club admit the charge and elect a paper hearing."

Blues were angered by Scott-Morris' dismissal for foul and abusive language, claiming mistaken identity.

However their appeal against the red card was unsuccessful and Scott-Morriss served a two match suspension.
