ROCHFORD Hundred suffered a disappointing day in Regional One South East, losing 45-28 at Bedford Athletic.
The defeat saw Rochford slip to third in the table and frustrated head coach Danny Cleare.
“Saturday was a tough day at the office,” said Cleare.
“We were nowhere near the level we need to be at to compete in this league.
“It’s another game we’ve scored four tries in so our attack is functioning well.
“However it’s also another game we’ve shipped over 40 points in, so defensively there are issues we need to address.”
But Cleare is now looking forward to a weekend off after a busy opening month to the season.
“The week off is much needed,” said Cleare.
“I wish it came a week earlier in all honesty but the time off will allow us to rest up and reflect on what’s gone well and what could be better, and hopefully start the next block of fixtures positively.”
Robert Gardner, Mitchell Fielder and Seth Mokuolu all scored tries for Rochford in the setback while they were also awarded a penalty try.
