SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher feels the Shrimpers are facing one of the toughest tests possible at this stage of the FA Cup tomorrow.

Blues head to National League South leaders Yeovil Town in the fourth qualifying round of the competition his weekend.

And Maher is certain the Glovers have made big strides forward since being relegated from the National League last season.

“They’re in a different place as a club compared to when we went there last year,” said Maher.

“The manager (Mark Cooper) is doing well now he’s got the people in he wants and is working properly.

“We couldn’t have got a tougher draw really.

“They’ve got some good players and obviously we know one or two of them.”

Rhys Murphy and Jake Hyde – who were both with Blues last season – are now lining up for Yeovil.

And Maher is pleased to see them playing.

“They’re two players that if we had kept fit last year they would’ve made a massive difference to the goals scored column,” said Maher.

“They’re both great lads and they’re missed not being here a characters.

“I’m glad to see Murph is up and scoring goals and Hydey is off the mark as well.

“I’m really pleased they’re playing and it will be good to see them.”

But Maher is keen to do well in the FA Cup this season.

“We’d love to go and do well in it,” said Maher.

“It’s not a competition that has been that kind to us in recent years but Yeovil are doing ever so well with their results so it’s a tough one and we’ll need to perform.”
