BILLERICAY Town head to Sheppey United in the FA Cup tonight looking to set up a first round tie with Walsall.

Billericay drew 1-1 with Sheppey at New Lodge on Saturday.

And boss Gary McCann felt the first meeting between the two teams could have gone either way.

“Either team could have won it if I’m being brutally honest,” McCann told the club’s Twitter account.

“I wasn’t as pleased with our performance as you would want me to be but we’re still in it.

“Credit must go to our opposition too because they were excellent.

“They were positive in transition and broke on us really well.

“They created some really good opportunities and we had to ride our luck at times.

“But we also had some moments and situations we needed to play better.”

However, Billericay are battling their way through a hectic schedule and McCann feels that is beginning to take its toll.

“We played in second gear for much of the game and I can quite easily put that down to the after affects of a tough game last Saturday, plus another one on Tuesday which emotionally challenges you and drains you too,” said McCann.

“It’s physical too so we tapered Thursday’s training which I don’t like to do but we just looked a bit leggy and off the pace.

“That’s not just physical though, it’s our decision making and our quality in the final third wasn’t where it needed to be.

“But we live to fight another day and our motivation for Tuesday is to be better than we were on Saturday.

“I know this group can be better too.”
