SOUTHEND United defender Brooklyn Kabongolo wants his first season in men's football to be one to remember.

Kabongolo has made a fine start with the Shrimpers since signing from Billericay Town at the end of September.

And the 20-year-old is eager to keep helping Kevin Maher's side work their way up the National League standings.

"We've caught up after the points deduction and the play-offs would take a great push but I think it's possible," said Kabongolo.

"We've been playing well and want to keep it going."

Blues are currently 14th in the table, six points behind Aldershot who currently occupy the final play-off position.

But Kabongolo is also looking to maintain his own high level of performance.

And the centre-back, who has made five appearances for Blues so far, already feels firmly at home at Roots Hall.

"I've really enjoyed it here so far," said Kabongolo.

"The lads are good and have really helped me with coming into the team.

"It's been good to play and I've settled in well off the pitch too."

Kabongolo was particularly impressive on his first start against Ebbsfleet United before coming off the bench during the second half of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Boreham Wood.

And he was always determined to start sampling senior football this season after leaving Ipswich Town in the summer.

"I'd been at Ipswich for seven years, from the under 13s to the under 20s," said Kabongolo.

"I missed the whole of my pro contract with a back injury but I've been clear from that for a while and I knew I needed first team football.

"This is my first time in proper men's football.

"I learnt a lot at Billericay and still am with Southend.

"It's a good level and a good club so I'm happy to be here."
