DANNY Cowley cannot wait to be back in management.
The former Concord Rangers boss has been without a club being dismissed by Portsmouth in January.
But Cowley is keen to ensure his next opportunity is the right one for his career.
“We're missing football every day and waiting for the next opportunity but it has to be the right one for us,” said Cowley.
“The success we had at Concord and Lincoln in particular was around working with really good people who were hard-working and had the club's best interest at heart.
“But we're excited for the next opportunity.”
Cowley, who taught PE at the FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh before concentrating on management full-time has stayed in football by working within the media.
And he has also enjoyed watching his daughter Bella enjoy her own footballing success.
“My daughter plays so I've been lucky enough to watch and coach her,” said Cowley.
“She plays for Chelsea and she's just been in a tournament in Greece.
“We've just got back and luckily enough she got an England call-up just recently too.
“She's going to play for England under 15s against Norway in Greece.
“We've been having fun with the family.
“When you're in management it can be hard to find family time because it's all consuming as you know.”
Cowley works closely with brother Nicky at all the clubs he has managed.
And the duo enjoyed their time with Portsmouth, despite not being able to get the Hampshire side out of League One.
“It's a huge club with massive expectation,” said Cowley.
“Sometimes with these big clubs when they're moving in the wrong direction the hardest thing to do is to turn them round.
“It's like a juggernaut going in the wrong direction and it's been the same at Southend.
“We have a lot of love for them as a lot of pupils at FitzWimarc were Southend supporters so behind West Ham they became our second team.
“But you have to stop the juggernaut and turn it round.
“You know if you get it moving in the right direction it can gather unbelievable momentum and it's great to see Portsmouth doing as well as they are at the moment.
“Hopefully the takeover gets completed at Southend and there's good news there too.”
But the Cowleys could have been playing far more of a part at Blues had things worked out differently as the duo were once offered the chance to take charge.
“We had a conversation with Ron Martin somewhere along the line,” said Cowley.
“Southend were League One at the time I think and it was very early in our tenure at Lincoln.
“We were very focused on what we were doing there so the timing wasn't right unfortunately.”
However, Cowley continues to keep a close eye on the club.
“It's been an incredibly challenging period for the club but the support has been amazing,” said Cowley.
“What the staff and players are doing there is to be commended and they have our full support.
“I really hope they can come through this period and become the club that everyone wants them to be.”
But Cowley is still working towards achieving his own aspirations.
“We've worked in eight of the top nine divisions so the ambition is to try and work the ninth,” he added.
