A TRIO of south-Essex sides will be gunning for more glory in the the FA Vase this weekend.

Hullbridge Sports, Great Wakering Rovers and White Ensign have all worked their way through to the second round of the competition.

But the three Essex Senior League teams remain eager to keep the run going.

Hullbridge head to Saffron Walden Town and attacking midfielder Jon Evans is determined to make it through.

“The Vase for us this season is very important,” said Evans.

“We see it as a realistic competition that we can go far in.

“We had a really good run in the FA Cup and can hopefully have another good run in the Vase now.

“We believe as a team we have the talent to go far and will do whatever it takes to make the dream of Wembley possible.”

But Evans is taking nothing for granted against Saffron Walden.

“This weekend will be another tough match away to a side who are just below us in the league,” said Evans.

“Our second game of the season saw us lose 2-1 at home to Saffron Walden but hopefully we can go to their place and be in the hat for the next round.

“I expect them to be a well organised team, but we will focus on ourselves and what threats we have to offer.”

Great Wakering have a home tie against Downham Town.

And Rovers striker Callum Boylan also has high hopes for the competition.

“The Vase is very important for Wakering and we are taking it very seriously as we believe we can go all the way,” said Boylan.

“We’ve got a great bunch of lads here and we’re all full of confidence heading into the weekend’s game.

“We’re expecting another tough game but we are all full of confidence and being at home hopefully it gives us the edge to go and win the game to get into the next round.”

White Ensign head to May & Baker for their second round clash on Sunday.

And defender Callum Ferris is expecting a stern test despite Ensign being in a higher level than their hosts.

“This Sunday it’s not going be an easy game,” warned Ferris.

“We’re the Step 5 side so they’re obviously going to be right up for the game at their ground and they will want to cause at upset.

“But if we start strong and show the quality in the squad then I strongly believe we will win the game.

“Hopefully we can get into the next round and keep proving people wrong.”

And Ferris is also keen to advance as far as possible in the FA Vase.

“The Vase for Ensign is very important,” said Ferris.

“Not only does it give the club some recognition but helps massively with giving us, a small club, a chance of playing at the most prestigious stadium in the country so it’s good competition.”
