SOUTHEND United legend Adam Barrett is staying with Millwall.

The 43-year-old had been caretaker manager of the Lions following the dismissal of Gary Rowett.

But the Championship club have now confirmed Barrett will be staying at the Den as part of newly appointed Joe Edwards' managerial team.

Millwall chief executive Steve Kavanagh told the club's website: "I would also like to show my appreciation for Adam Barrett, who stepped into caretaker charge of the team in difficult circumstances following Gary’s departure with typically remarkable professionalism, drive, and determination.

"While we perhaps didn’t get the rub of the green in certain moments of his time in charge, it was clear that the players responded very well to Adam’s approach and methods, and we’re delighted that he has accepted Joe’s request for him to remain part of a new-look backroom team."

Barrett made 354 appearances for the Shrimpers in his playing career.
