ALTRINCHAM boss Phil Parkinson thought his side were worthy winners against Southend United.

Goals from Justin Amaluzor and Justin Donawa secured a 2-0 victory for the Robins on Saturday.

And Parkinson felt Altrincham’s performance warranted all three points in a hard-fought game.

“We said from the outset there would be no quarter given by either side today,” Parkinson told the club’s YouTube channel.

“There certainly wasn’t and we felt like we came out on top.

“We thought we deserved that win.”

However, Parkinson did initially fear it might not be Altrincham’s day when Shrimpers skipper Nathan Ralph impressively blocked a goalbound effort from Alex Newby.

“It was really good defending from Ralph at the back post but how that’s not gone in I’ve got no idea,” said Parkinson.

“You wonder if it’s going to be one of those days when they’ve got an 11 goal centre-forward up top who you think will have one chance and score.

“That was the challenge to our centre-backs.

“They are doing a fantastic job but I don’t think they had loads to do.

“The way we played and functioned reduced them to very little. “

And Parkinson also felt Altrincham stayed in control during Blues’ best spell of the game in the second half.

“They had a 10 or 15 minute spell where we became a bit disjoined after the goal,” said Parkinson.

“Ethan (Ross) made a great save but apart from that I thought we were really comfortable in and out of possession.”

Altrincham are now unbeaten in 10 league games and sit fifth in the National League standings.
