SOUTHEND United striker Harry Cardwell continues to be blown away by the level of support coming the Shrimpers’ way.
Blues had 324 travelling supporters roaring them on at Gateshead on Saturday.
And Cardwell – who scored Southend’s goal in the 1-1 draw – remains incredibly grateful for their backing.
“It’s crazy the support we get as a group,” said Cardwell.
“On Saturday the atmosphere at home to Chesterfield was unbelievable and one of the best I’ve played in.
“To see the numbers at Gateshead after what must have taken them six or seven hours to get there is next level.
“We’re so proud as players to represent them.
And those sentiments were echoed by Shrimpers boss Kevin Maher.
“It’s cold and open over there and to travel up and support us the way they do is testament to them,” said Maher.
“I’m glad we could give them something to cheer because it was a disappointing one here last year.
“I’m sure one or two stayed up and enjoyed their night too.”
