LUIS Shamshoum is backing Great Wakering Rovers to go all the way in the FA Vase this season.

Wakering head to Fakenham Town tomorrow, weather permitting, for a third round clash.

And Shamshoum is confident Wakering have what it takes to work their way through to Wembley.

“I don’t see any reason we can’t go all the way in the FA Vase,” said the Wakering shot-stopper.

“The Vase has been very important for us this season and we hope we can go all the way in the competition as it builds the profile of the club and us as players.

“Also every round we progress the prize pot is bigger and we want to earn the club as much money as we can, as it goes a long way at this level.

“I’m buzzing for our long trip to Norfolk and we will do everything we can to make that trip worth while.

“Our trip back from St Neots was one I will always remember and they are special moments you don’t often get, so we all want another one of those days.”

Wakering head into the tie sitting eighth in the Essex Senior League standings.

And Shamshoum has been encouraged by the season so far.

“It has been very positive,” said Shamshoum.

“We have a really good squad full of quality players and we all bond and gel well.

“We have the joint second best defensive record in the league and we have done well in the FA Vase so far and hopefully we can go all the way.

“It took us time to get the results that we wanted and needed but as we were a brand new squad that can be expected.

“Hopefully now we can reach our target which is minimum play offs.”

This weekend sees a break from league action as Wakering head to Fakenham who sit 10th in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

But Shamshoum is not too sure what to expect.

“Obviously Fakenham aren’t in our league and we don’t know as much about their league however any club that has come this far in the FA Vase will be a tough test,” said Shamshoum .

“We cannot go into the game with complacency.

“We are in a good run of form and we can bring that momentum into Saturday.

“We don’t want to concentrate too much on the opposition because we know we can hurt teams with the threat we have up top and the solid defence we have too.”

And Shamshoum also feels the togetherness of the team is hugely important.

“Not only do we have quality footballers but we all get on well,” said Shamshoum .

“There are no individuals in this team and that can take you a long way over the course of the season but we are taking one game at a time.”
