HARRISON Day bagged the first senior hat-trick of his career to help Concord Rangers beat Lewes 4-1 at the Aspect Arena.

The victory moved the Beach Boys off the foot of the Isthmian Premier Division standings.

And Day was delighted to help Concord pick up a vital three points.

“It was a special day and I wouldn’t do it with any other team,” said the 18-year-old.

“It’s my first senior hat-trick and I’m sure it’s the first of many.

“I’m happy to help the team win and get the three points but this win is just the start for us.

“We have so much talent in our changing room and we are starting to come together and use that ability.

“We have to win games on the front foot as well as when on the counter and it was very pleasing.”

Day fired Concord in front after just seven minutes before making it 2-0 midway through the first half.

Simo Mbonkwi increased the Beach Boys’ lead 10 minutes into the second half before Day completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 80th minute.

Tommy Wood netted late on for Lewes but it proved to be a mere consolation as Concord bagged a vital victory.

And Day is now hungry for more.

“This is just the building block and we are keen to push on,” said Day.

“There’s a standard that is set and everyone has to stay at it if we want to get where we want to be.”

The win made it three matches unbeaten for Concord who sit eight points from safety with games in hand on all of the sides above them in the standings.

But Day is not looking too far ahead.

“We are going to take every game as it comes and keep doing the right things,” said Day.

“We have a busy schedule coming up so it’s going to be a real team effort from the starting 11 to everyone on the bench.

“But I hope the fans can see what we are building and will back us to the end.”

And Day is also eager to help the club after working his way through the youth system.

“I came to Concord about three years ago, playing both seasons in under 18 football here,” said Day.

“The second season I scored 50 plus goals and earned my place in the first team making appearances off the bench in the Conference South.”

But Day has also not forgotten the part Catholic United played in his progression.

“Catholic United helped me get in to men’s football at 16-years-old,” said Day.

“I can’t thank them enough for that.”
