SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher will make late checks on Oli Coker and Wes Fonguck ahead of Saturday's FA Trophy clash with Hampton & Richmond.

Coker (thigh) and Fonguck (hamstring) both missed Blues' 1-1 draw at Gateshead last time out.

And Maher does not yet know if the midfield duo will be available this weekend.

“Oli and Wes we’ll see today,” said Maher.

“They couldn’t really do much at the start of the week.

“Oli is probably slightly ahead of Wes but the two of them we’ve got to manage in terms of training and see where they are before we pick the team.”

Midfielder Cav Miley (thigh) and striker Callum Powell (knee) both remain sidelined along with defender Louis Lomas who has yet to appear this season due to a groin issue.

“Louis has been in and is getting recovery work after his operation,” said Maher,

“Hopefully now he can start pushing forward.

“It’s obviously been a long road for him and it’s disappointing he hasn’t been able to feature.

“But fingers crossed he can put that behind him and start doing the real recovery work he needs to do to be able to train again.

“He’s still a little bit off from that.”

And Jason Demetriou also remains sidelined with a hamstring problem.

“JD was doing some work on the grass at the start of the week but he’s felt a bit of tightness so he’s come off it for a couple of days now,” added Maher.

Jack Wood looks set to return to the starting line up for Blues in place of the departed Daniel Kanu.
