SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher heaped praise on goalkeeper Collin Andeng Ndi following the Shrimpers’ 2-1 win at Kidderminster Harriers.

The fit-again shot-stopper made a trio of fine second half saves in his first start since suffering an ankle injury in September.

And Maher was delighted with the custodian’s display, with one of his saves earning extra praise.

“One was almost like Gordon Banks,” said Maher.

“All credit to him for staying fit and credit to Dave Martin too.

“He works the goalkeepers unbelievably hard so they’re ready to come in.

“Dave’s a top pro and I think Collin is learning off him which is really important because I don’t think he’s had that since Reece (Ottley) left.”

And Martin has still been contributing to training despite suffering broken ribs against Bromley last weekend.

“Credit to Dave as well,” said Maher.

“He came in for training even though he’s a very stiff man.

“He wanted to come today actually too but it was better he stayed at home due to the injury.

“He messaged us before the game and the sooner we have him around again the better.”
