SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher feels Henry Sandat’s return to the Shrimpers will be beneficial for all involved.

The 18-year-old – who joined Hull City from Blues in the summer – has returned to Roots Hall on a month long loan deal.

And Maher was happy to have Sandat back in the squad for Saturday’s 2-1 win at Kidderminster Harriers.

“I’m pleased because he’s someone we lost in the summer after he went to a Championship club,” said Maher.

“Good luck to him but I do think he misses playing men’s football.

“Even in the short period of time he was on the pitch (at Kidderminster) I think you can see that intensity you get in men’s football.

“This will be important to him but he’ll earn the respect of the lads because he’s a great lad and they all love him in there.

“It’s nice to have a centre forward to come on too!”

Sandat replaced Wes Fonguck in the 62nd minute of the win but Maher felt the youngster should have made more of an excellent opportunity to score late on.

“Henry’s had a chance as well that he’s got to do better with,” said Maher.

“He’s got to score.

“I don’t like trying to flick it over the keeper.

“Get it in the net and get the game done.”

After his introduction, Sandat featured alongside Brooklyn Kabongolo in attack.

And Maher is pleased with how centre-back Kabongolo is performing in his new position.

“For his size he’s quite mobile and all credit to him,” said Maher.

“He’s been asked to do the job and it’s incredible really. “
