SOUTHEND United midfielder Cav Miley has yet to resume training.

The 28-year-old has been out with a thigh problem since early October.

But Blues boss Kevin Maher has confirmed Miley is edging closer to a return.

“He’s done a lot of work with the medical department,” said Maher.

“But he’s got to come back into the squad and train properly.

“He’s got to get through a period of training because he should be considered.

“But he’s getting closer and that’s good news.”

Strikers Harry Cardwell and Callum Powell both remain sidelined with knee injuries while goalkeeper David Martin is out with a suspected broken rib.

“It looks like it’s a break but we haven’t got confirmation of that just yet,” said Maher.

“It will be a number of weeks.”

Collin Andeng Ndi will continue between the sticks for the Shrimpers but defender Louis Lomas, who has yet to appear this season, is still unavailable due to a groin problem.

“He’s still struggling with what he’s had going on,” said Maher.

“He’s done some work outside with the medical staff but he’s still a long way off. “
