BARNET boss Dean Brennan admitted Saturday’s game could have gone either way against Southend United.

A late header from Adebola Oluwo saw the Bees bag a 1-0 win against Blues at the Hive.

And Brennan thought his side showed good character to triumph.

“It was gritty and we showed loads of courage defensively,” Brennan told the club’s YouTube channel.

“In the first half we were in control and most of the patterns were ours but we were a bit all bark no bite.

“There wasn’t enough quality but we persevered.”

However, Brennan thought the Shrimpers were more of a threat in the second half.

“To be fair to Southend they came out in the second half and they put it on us,” said Brennan.

“They made us defend and we had to come up with the answers which to be fair to my players they did.

“Our goalie made two or three fantastic saves when he needed to.

“We showed character and togetherness and it’s a great way to win sometimes.

“These are huge games but it could have gone any way.

“It was the toss of a coin game to be honest.”
