RUSHALL Olympic manager Liam McDonald says Southend United have signed “a top striker” in Danny Waldron.

The 27-year-old goal getter has joined the Shrimpers from the National League North side.

And his former boss McDonald has wished him well at Roots Hall.

“This is a great move for Danny,” McDonald told the club’s website.

“He has worked extremely hard this season and has improved so much as a footballer.

“His finishing has been deadly and he has scored a crazy amount of goals for a club in our position.

“It’s massive credit to him and his team-mates for getting him this opportunity.

“He is a very talented footballer, one of the best that I have managed.”

McDonald also praised the part Alvechurch part in his career and will continue to keep tabs on his time with the Shrimpers.

“He’s a likeable lad who we care about immensely,” said McDonald.

“Yes, we are sad to see him go, but we are excited for him on the next part of his journey. Southend have a top striker on their hands.

“He’s going to be missed; he will be hard to replace, but we will do it. We’ll take our time and bring in the right player to help us on the journey that we are on.

“It is a time for us to stick together and move on to the next challenge, which comes at Farsley Celtic on Saturday.”
