SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher was pleased to hand debuts to both Danny Waldron and Adam Crowther at Chesterfield.

The duo both came off the bench in the second half of the 3-0 defeat to the Spireites.

And Maher was happy to see them get their first taste of action with the Shrimpers.

“Danny’s come in and it’s going to take him a bit of time to get up to speed because he’s still got to do his work side of things," said Maher.

"But he’s going to be a great addition once he gets going.”

Waldron replaced Harry Cardwell in the 67th minute while Crowther played the final few minutes in place of Jack Bridge.

Maher added: “Crowths has had to be patient but I’m glad he got on for his debut."

“He will play a big part for us, like Danny and I’m pleased for them.”
