ADAM Crowther is finally looking to make his home debut for Southend United this weekend.

The Shrimpers have had two matches at Roots Hall postponed since Crowther’s arrival earlier this month.

And the centre-back is now eagerly anticipating the game with Gateshead going ahead on Saturday.

“It’s been a bit strange because I’ve been here three weeks and we haven’t had a home game yet,” said Crowther.

“I’m looking forward to Saturday and being in front of all the fans.”

Crowther joined Blues from King’s Lynn Town towards the start of January.

And the size of the Shrimpers support played a part in his decision.

“It was a big factor in why I wanted to come here,” said the 23-year-old.

“I wanted to play in front of a big crowd every week and a club with really passionate fans.

“The away support has been unbelievable.

“It’s unheard of at this level and it helps so much.”

Crowther first experienced the away support for Kevin Maher’s side as an unused substitute at Eastleigh before coming off the bench for his debut at Chesterfield on Saturday.

And the defender was pleased to get onto the pitch for the first time as a late replacement for Jack Bridge in the 3-0 defeat.

“I enjoyed coming on too,” said Crowther.

“Obviously the score wasn’t what we wanted but it was nice to make my debut in front of the travelling fans who were brilliant.”

The match saw the Shrimpers get back in action after a fortnight without a fixture.

But the gap did allow Crowther more time to settle into his new surroundings.

“It's probably helped in that I’ve managed to get more training sessions in,” said Crowther.

“I’m getting used to how the lads like to play and they’re getting used to me too.

“It’s been going really well so far and I’m really enjoying it.

“All the lads have been brilliant and so have the management staff so I already feel like one of the lads and part of the group.

“But of course you can’t beat playing games.”

And Crowther is hoping to be involved again this weekend against eighth placed Gateshead.

“It should be a good game,” said Crowther.

“They like to play and so do we so it will be a good battle to see who comes out on top.

“They’re doing well and we want to catch them and hopefully I can get some minutes too.”

Crowther remains determined to make the most of any opportunities coming his way.

And he is also eager to help Blues kick on.

“I want to play as many games as possible and win as many games as possible too,” said Crowther.

“Hopefully we can go up the leagues because that’s the aim and the target.

“My personal target has always been to play as high as I can and another reason why I came here is because Southend are aligned with that ambition.”
