BROOKLYN Kabongolo has left Southend United.

The 21-year-old defender made 14 appearances for the Shrimpers this season, on a non-contract basis, after signing from Billericay Town.

But he has now opted to depart.

A club statement confirmed: “Following several weeks of negotiations to reward Brooklyn's efforts with a longer-term contract, the club were notified yesterday of the defender’s decision to move on.

“We thank Brooklyn for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best in his career.”

Kabongolo was also used as a makeshift striker during his time with the Shrimpers and scored the first goal of his senior career against Bromley at Roots Hall in December.

However, the defender failed to make the last two matchday squads for Blues.
