BOWERS & Pitsea stretched their unbeaten run to eight games with a 1-1 draw at home to Gorleston.

It was a quiet opening period at the Len Salmon Stadium but the contest sparked into life just before half time with two goals in as many minutes.

The visitors struck first with Dion Frary handing the Greens a 39th minute lead when he scored a powerful header from six yards out from a Jaceb Zielonka corner.

Bowers responded quickly and James Collins' side got themselves back on terms instantly from a corner of their own.

A Benas Vaivada delivery found skipper Lewis Chambers at the near post who converted past Jake Jessup with a stooped header at the front post.

The hosts then went close to turning the game on its head on the stroke of half time with Vaivada flashing an effort across goal and agonisingly wide.

Bowers continued to threaten early in the second half and just prior to the hour mark Jessup had to make a crucial save to keep the scores level.

Ben Williamson threaded a pass into the feet of Matt Price who drilled a strike towards the far corner that had to be turned behind by the legs of Jessup.

From this point onwards it was Gorleston who looked the more likely of the two sides to snatch a winner.

After 65 minutes home goalkeeper David Hughes was forced into making two key saves in a matter of minutes.

The former Aveley shot stopper could only punch clear a Zielonka freekick as far as Ismael Fatadjo who fired the ball back towards goal with Hughes having to turn behind.

From the resulting Zielonka corner the 31-year-old then had to make a fine reaction save to deny George Keys at the back post.

The Greens kept the pressure up and two minutes from time Hughes again prevented them from netting a late winner when he tipped over a 20 yard freekick from King's Lynn loanee Fatadjo to ensure the game finished 1-1.

A draw ends Bowers' run of six straight wins at home as they remain fourth in the Isthmian North table.
