GREAT Wakering Rovers will be looking to move within one round of Wembley this weekend.

The Essex Senior League side host Falmouth Town in the quarter finals of the FA Vase at Burroughs Park tomorrow.

And boss Marcus Bowers cannot wait for kick off.

“Behind the nerves is a lot of excitement,” said Bowers.

“It’s a huge game for myself personally, the players and most of all the whole club.

“It’s the furthest the club has ever been and it’s certainly my biggest achievement as a manager so far.”

A last gasp header from Perry Dunn saw Wakering win 3-2 at Highworth Town in the previous round.

But Bowers does not know too much about their next opponents who sit third in the Premier Division of the ToolStation Western Football League.

“We are of course expecting a really tough game,” said Bowers.

“It’s the last eight of around 600 teams so bad teams don’t get to this stage and we know we are going to be in for a really tough challenge.

“We know bits about them but with them being 350 miles away it makes it a little tough to do what we would usually do and get over to watch them.

“Sometimes it’s best not to know too much in my opinion as you can start to overthink things and try to be a bit too clever.”

Wakering head into the clash sitting 10th in the league with games in hand on all of the sides above them, due to the Vase run.

And Bowers is satisfied with his side’s form.

“Our recent form is OK,” said Bowers.

“We’ve had a lot of postponements recently which has hindered our momentum a bit and we narrowly lost to league leaders Tilbury recently.

“We didn’t deserve to lose but that’s football.

“On Tuesday evening we played Woodford in the cup but we made Saturday a priority and rested a few key players.

“We narrowly lost again but we are determined not to let that hinder us going into the game Saturday.”
