GREAT Wakering Rovers boss Marcus Bowers has labelled his side’s 2-0 win against Falmouth Town as the biggest of his managerial career.

A brace from Harry Talbot sent Wakering through to the semi-finals of the FA Vase.

And Bowers – whose team are now just one round away from Wembley - could not contain their delight.

“It’s massive for everyone involved,” said Bowers.

“It’s by far my biggest win as a manager and I believe it’s the club’s biggest win in a long time too.

“I really hope we can go all the way now.”

Wakering will now face Worcester City in a two legged semi-final.

And Bowers is keen for everyone connected with the club to share in the excitement.

“Saturday is a reward to all the people in the club who deserve it after a tough year last year,” said Bowers.

“They pulled together for Saturday’s occasion and you can just see by the pictures how much it means to so many.”

Talbot scored twice in the second half to secure victory for Wakering.

But Bowers thought it took time for the game to get going.

“I thought first half was a very nervy game,” said Bowers.

“Both teams looked nervous and didn’t really play much football. That being said we had one really good chance early on that the keeper saved, then another chance when their goalkeeper pulled off an outrageous save.

“But at half-time we got together and told the lads to relax.

“In the second half they did just that and in my opinion we fully deserved to win.

“I don’t believe our goalkeeper has made a real save all game.”

At the other end of the pitch, Talbot again took centre stage.

And Bowers had words of praise for the match-winner.

“Harry is a class act,” said Bowers.

“Not just on the pitch, but off the pitch. He is a huge character and one the lads really look to when they need a bit of a boost.

“He gives the lads belief they can beat anyone in front of them.

“It was a tough game for forwards but he kept himself in the game and grabbed the first goal.

“When we won the penalty there was no doubt in my mind he would slot it away.

“He’s a very confident lad and rightly so.

“I love working with him.”

But Wakering are now facing a hectic end to the season as they face playing catch up with their Essex Senior League campaign.

“Saturday is still sinking in, but the semi-final is something I’m really looking forward to,” said Bowers.

“In my head today I’m more thinking how on earth we are going to fit all of our games in, but that’s just part and parcel of the success so far.

“But nothing is won yet and we still have the play-offs to chase as well as the carrot dangled for Wembley now.”

Rovers will head to Worcester City for the first leg of the semi-final on Saturday March 30 before hosting City a week later at Burroughs Park.

Worcester are currently second in the Hellenic Football League Premier Division, a point behind leaders Corsham Town with five games in hand.
