HAYLEY West is on a high after helping Hashtag United win the FA Women's National League Cup final.

The Tags came from a goal down to beat Newcastle United 2-1 at Luton Town's Kenilworth Road ground.

And the Benfleet based West remains delighted with the victory.

"It's pure elation," said the right-back.

"I still haven't got through all the socials on it and more stuff just keeps getting shared.

"I’ve shed more than one tear just because it was possible.

"Some clubs you play at are special but this is more than a club, it’s an extended family."

Newcastle took the lead in final thanks to an unfortunate own goal from Malika Apindia.

But Hashtag quickly equalised through Macey Nicholls before substitute Phoebe Williams netted the winner in the second half.

And West felt the Tags triumphed thanks to their never say die attitude.

"Each team had their moments," said West.

"For Newcastle I thought they were strong but didn’t take their chances.

"They had a clear way of playing and shaping up but our keeper was class with some good shot stops.

"But our never say die attitude pushed us through.

"You didn’t see us tire, if anything we pushed more and we played our way.

"And let’s be honest, we won 2-1 but scored all three goals."

Hashtag's victory came against the odds with Newcastle currently 12 points clear at the tip of the FA Women's National League North Premier Division.

And it is a win which will live long in the memory for the Tags.

"We are on cloud nine," said West.

"We win and lose as a team.

"To get this shows the unity we have and the squad Jason (Stephens) and Craig (Davidson) have created with the backing of Spencer (Owen).

"But that isn’t forgetting everyone else who goes above and beyond to support not just the club but the players individually."

Such unity has also helped Hashtag enjoy a fine first season in the FA Women's National League South Premier Division.

The Tags sit second in the standings and have made the step up in fine fashion after winning promotion last season.

"No one could predict the season we have had on the back of last season," said West."

"History has been written already and then as a team we go and decide to win this too!

"We won the league last season and gained promotion.

"We have stepped up and sit second in this league, we have won the FAWNL League Cup and we are in the final of the Essex County Cup.

"We have beaten some very good sides this season and still we rise."
