SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin says his ‘interests are still aligned’ with the consortium looking to take control of the Shrimpers.

The consortium revealed to the Echo earlier today that the club have been hit by another winding up petition amid their ongoing wait to officially take over at Roots Hall.

But in a short statement issued this evening Martin said: “There is nothing to add, other than our interests are aligned and I think the creditor, knowing we are awaiting council processes to conclude, should exercise a little patience.

“If matters escalate they will be vigorously defended in protection of the club, as has been our position”
