BILLERICAY Town manager Gary McCann hailed an 'outstanding' performance as his side dispatched Haringey Borough 6-0.

Town went ahead through Bradley Stevenson on four minutes from the spot before Moses Emmanuel netted the second six minutes later.

Stevenson netted his hat-trick following two further strikes before they added to their four-goal cushion in the second half thanks to a second from Emmanuel and Ruben Soares-Junior's strike.

Speaking to the club's YouTube channel, McCann was full of praise for his players in a complete performance.

"Credit to the chaps as the remit all week has been to start fast and not give the opposition any hope and I thought our intentions from the first minute were exactly where they needed to be," he said.

"There was a professionalism about us, there was efficiency and clinical edge - every chance that presented itself to us we took and we put the game to bed inside 20 minutes so credit must go to the group of players.

"They have dealt with plenty of adversity over the course of the season and we have had a lot of injuries but we have never come out here and complained out it.

"I know we have had a dip and some criticism but I think the last three, four or five games has been very much more like us.

"I sit here with plenty of optimism and hope we will look after our side of what is required and we are hoping a little that other results go our way but today, I couldn't have asked for any more of the squad.

"I thought they were outstanding."

McCann also added the reasons behind the substitutions of Stevenson, Alfie Cerulli and Ollie Peters, saying he wants a fully-fit squad for the final three games of the season.

“Bradley’s was just a precaution as he started to fatigue and was tired and he has played a lot of minutes over the course of the last couple of weeks,” he explained.

“Alfie rolled his ankle and a stonewall penalty which one on Alfie saw him roll his ankle which felt a bit of uncomfortable and with the score at 4-0, there is no chance of us taking any risks.

“We have three huge games left which can hopefully develop into five but we need all of our players fit and healthy.

“Ollie had a nasty kick on the end of his toe that was sore but we want to protect him for the run-in."

Town, who are now fifth in the table, host Cheshunt in the Isthmian Premier Division on Saturday.
