ANOTHER letter on concerns for Southend United's future.

Letters in the Echo fret that Southend United may be finished.

Seemingly stuck in the National League, the team may soon collapse entirely if a deal is not reached sooner than seems possible.

Southend United fans should remember, it did not have to be this way.

If the team had embraced reality, accepted its existence as a lower-league team at Roots Hall, then the team would still happily be a lower-league team at Roots Hall.

Instead, the club and its supporters lost themselves in absurd delusions of greatness.

They chased the dream of a massive new stadium and scored the ultimate own-goal.

Some of us warned that the Fossetts Farm stadium was a wholly destructive fantasy.

This wasn’t a popular position, but we should have been listened to from the start.
